EARTH FRIENDLY TIPS

1) Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact flourescent bulbs.

2) Don't be a drip!  Stop leaky faucets!  A leaky faucet that fills a coffee cup in 10 minutes will waste an estimated 3,000 gallons of water a year.

3)  Save a 100 million trees and billions of gallons of water that are used to create junk mail that never gets recycled each year.

4) Avoiding 15 miles of driving per week would eliminate 900 lbs. of CO2 emmissions per year.  Do your part.

5) Wash and refill your water and soda bottles to eliminate plastic waste.

6) Keep your car tuned and tires fully inflated.

Did you know we could save up to 2 billion gallons of fuel a year by properly inflating our tires.?  50 to 80 percent of the tires on cars being driven in the US are underinflated.  Underinflated tires waste up to 5% of a car’s fuel.

7) Don't water your lawn everyday.  Test first to see if it needs it.  Water only in the early morning or evening - water evaporates four to eight times faster during the heat of the day.

8) Save gas and emissions by carpooling...and you can use the HOV lane.

9) Turn off your screen saver.  The EPA has estimated that using a computer's "sleep mode" reduces its energy consumption by 60 to 70%.    A screen saver that displays moving images causes your monitor to consumer as much electricity as it does in active use.  A blank screen saver is only slightly better.  The best screen saver is also the best energy saver:  turn off your monitor when you are not using it.

10) Give an Earth friendly gift (like a EarthSmart bouquet!).  Did you know that we generate an extra million TONS of trash each week from Thanksgiving to New Years?  Choose recyclable or organic items as gifts and buy cards made from recycled paper.
